My next gig was an event hosted by Pantex at the civic center. I still don't know what the banquet was for, but I did learn that oftentimes, the a/v crew will get fed for free on gigs.
I did learn some other useful things other than that, however. I set up projectors and cameras for video magnification use, and set up speakers to use for audio reinforcement. I also learned how to deal with stressful situations involving a client who had saved a file into a format we couldn't put onto the screen. We helped the client as best as we could to make it work, and we were eventually able to run the video on time.

Canadian River Music Festival
I was called to work over a weekend with New Day for the Canadian River Music Festival on May 14. We would be working with another local sound reinforcement company in Canadian, Texas from Friday to Sunday, with artists such as Robert Earl Keen and Don Edwards.
We loaded the trailer and drove out Friday Morning. Our first order of business was to set up the indoor stage where the headliner Robert Earl Keen would be playing the next night. We hung lights and set up both monitor world, for on-stage monitor mixing, and front of house sound. After getting the indoor stage ready, we moved out to begin setting the outdoor stage, but did not have time to finish before we called it a day.
The next morning, we woke up early and finished set up and prepared to soundcheck artists. I had the opportunity to work with and even meet artists such as Robert Earl Keen, Don Edwards, and Tommy Alverson.

The warehouse
The next call that I got from New Day was about one week after the Hawk Nelson show. They didn't have another event, but were looking for some help in unloading from another event and organizing their warehouse.
I made the drive to the warehouse and learned quickly that a production company must keep a lot of gear on hand, and that all of it has it's own area in the warehouse. I also learned some basics about loading trailers. I spent several hours at the warehouse unloading two trailers filled with equipment and then reorganizing gear. It was a little interesting to me that even though production companies are already behind the scenes, there is even more behind the scenes work that goes on so that they can function properly.
